Welcome to A Himalayan Odyssey

We are a small but specialized travel company offering eco friendly tours of the Eastern Himalayan region.  After having completed a Diploma course in Travel & Tourism Industry Management from Indian Institute of Tourist & Travel Management, New Delhi in the year 1995, I worked for 2 years with a leading Travel Management company in New Delhi to gain firsthand experience in handling tour groups. The work experience involved accompanying groups as a Tour Manager for expeditions, treks and tours. In the year 1997, I came back to my home town in Darjeeling and established my own company, a himalayan Odyssey

I have a good support team of free lance experts in trekking guides, camp staff, river runners who operate rafting trips in the mighty Teesta, transport operators who provide comfortable vehicles to suit needs of groups or individuals. I also work in close association with local experts in the field of flora, birds and culture of the region. In the last ten to eleven years we have provided logistic support in setting up tented accommodation and meals, organizing rock climbing facilities with instructors for CORPORATE OUTBOUND PROGRAMMES.

In the following pages you will find brief descriptions of our area of expertise and competence. Please do send in your queries which will get our personal attention and I look forward to planning a tour or trek for you.

Yours truly,

Nikhil Pradhan

This is the region made famous by the naturalist Joseph Dalton Hooker1 in the mid 1800’s. Though much of the natural scenery and environment has changed since Hooker walked these hills, we still have a splendid eco system to show you. Our area of operation is spread out over the Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Sikkim Himalayas, its people, culture, flora and fauna. This area ranges from the warm Himalayan foothills of North Bengal plains right up to the alpine meadows of Singalila range and the Lachen valley with quaint “hill stations” of Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Gangtok in between.

These mountain ranges have been an amalgamating point of ancient religions and cultures. From the west the influence of Nepalese language and culture has been formidable. From the north came the hardy Tibetan people with their customs and Lamaism and from the east, the rich `heritage of the people of Bhutan. In this beautiful mountain country land scaped with rolling acres of cultivated bushes, virgin forests and panoramic views of the Himalayan Mountain ranges, hospitality is an inborn tradition. In the Darjeeling area, tea cultivation is perhaps the most important industry. This is the home of Darjeeling tea. Visitors from home and all over the world throng to this picturesque town situated at 7000ft. above sea level for memorable holidays. Kalimpong at 4000ft above mean sea level offers a quiet holiday  with verdant green hills while Sikkim is a nature lover’s paradise!
